The Terroir
In tobacco cultivation, terroir encompasses the harmonious interplay of climate, solar energy, soil relief, geology, and hydrology — all of which shape the character and flavors of the leaves. Our exceptional tobaccos, defining the unmistakable taste of Laura Chavin cigars, flourish in carefully chosen top locations on our farm in the Cibao Valley, 800 meters above sea level.
Harvesting & Drying Mastery
Our experienced tobacco farmers meticulously determine the ideal moment for harvesting and carefully manage the drying phase that follows. In traditional drying sheds, shaded with palm fronds, the sorted and bundled tobacco leaves breathe in the fresh, down-slope winds of the low mountain range. This gentle preparation ensures that every leaf reaches the tabacalera in optimal condition, ready to be transformed into an extraordinary cigar.
Crafting the Leaf
Our gentle fermentation process transforms each tobacco leaf, eliminating bitterness and excess nicotine to reveal rich, smooth flavors. At Laura Chavin, we tailor the maturing process to each tobacco type, using precise low temperatures and aging for 4–5 years to create a complex, layered profile. The rest? A closely guarded secret of exceptional quality.
Mastering Blending & Craftsmanship
For our Laura Chavin master blenders, quality is paramount. Each wrapper, binder, and filler is carefully selected and perfectly balanced to create a harmonious flavor profile.
